Members of the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing get presidential recognition from Slovenia for April 24th international rescue mission
Pictured left to right are Mrs. Nataša Mikuž and Col. Ivo Mikuž, Military Attaché from the Slovenian Embassy in Washington DC, Col. Nicholas Broccoli and Brigadier General Thomas J. Owens II of the New York Air National Guard, President Borut Pahor of Slovenia and Chief Master Sergeant Michael Hewson also of the New York Air National Guard . All were present for the awarding of the Slovenian Medal for Merit in the military field by the May 21, 2017. The ceremony took place at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Slovenia office to the United Nations, New York. The medals given to the 102nd and 103rd rescue squadrons of the 106th Rescue Wing for thier international rescue mission to render aid to crew members injured in an explosion on board the motor vessel Tamar that began on April 24th.
