Synopsis
As part of the measures to reinforce the eastern part of the Alliance, the Danish Armed Forces have deployed a battalion along with other units in Latvia. With approximately 750 soldiers, the Danish soldiers are helping to reinforce the Baltic region after Russia’s unjustified and brutal invasion of Ukraine. These actions demonstrate Allies’ solidarity, determination and ability to defend Alliance territory and populations.
The battalion is formed by the Danish Army’s 1st Brigade and is mainly composed of the 1st Hussars of the Guard Hussars Regiment, along with other units. The Danish forces have been deployed alongside troops from other NATO member countries at Ādaži Military Base since April 2022 and are integrated into the Latvian Mechanised Infantry Brigade.

“Together with all the other Allied nations in Latvia.

And the other part is to prepare, and if necessary, to defend Latvia and the other Baltic nations.”

“We need to remind ourselves of the threat and what is going on in Ukraine.

There’s no direct threat on the forces as for now. But I think that the last year has taught us that anything can happen.

“I think the deployment actually shows that we are able to deploy a pretty strong armoured mobile force within a few days and also that we are willing to fight amongst the other Allied nations, including the Latvian forces.”
