Chief Machinist’s Mate (Weapons) Oscar Avalos, a native of Mission Viejo, California, is assigned to Commander, Submarine Group Seven, headquartered at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. He explains why he loves the Navy and has made it a career as a submarine machinist's mate. “The job that I do used to be called torpedoman," said Avalos. "When it comes down to it when we’re at war, I’m the one reloading the gun for the captain.” (U.S. Navy video by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Benjamin Dobbs/Released)
