Anthony Mercado, commanding officer of 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, speaks on his time with 1st ANGLICO on their 70th anniversary at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, March 2, 2021. 1st ANGLICO was established in 1949 as the premier liaison company who helped develop the “universal spotter” concept, which consolidates the work of multiple Marines into one Marine trained to coordinate and control fires from artillery, naval gunfire, and close air support.
