Coimbra Response Diver Enters Water

The deep-water dive team lowers a diver into the water to begin an operational cycle 180 feet below off the coast of Shinnecock, N.Y. A unified command of US Coast Guard and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation began recovery operations on May 11, 2019 after discovering a significant amount of oil trapped in the Coimbra wreck. The Coimbra was a British supply ship carrying oil to Nova Scotia when is was torpedoed by German U-Boat 123 in January, 1942
