Just outside Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital, Georgian, US, Romanian and Bulgarian soldiers take part in exercise Agile Spirit.

“Our main objection is to move into NATO, to the European Union so, these exercises give us more chance to move in this direction. This year is the first time that NATO members, I mean Romania, Bulgaria, Latvian, Lithuanian militaries are attending this exercise and they’re participating in this exercise, so it’s very important time for us, very important that it is NATO members first time in Georgia and joining together in these exercises.”

“What we’re doing here is practicing conventional offence and defense operations. And what that allows us to do is transition rapidly away from the counter insurgency requirement of Iraq and now Afghanistan and go back to a more general purpose infantry force that can respond to regional crisis.”
