JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — Ikaika Hollinger, a nuclear machinist with Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, produces a metal prototype using a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) lathe machine in the innovation laboratory (iLab) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Oct. 17, 2025.

The iLab leverages skilled technicians and technology to achieve manufacturing, creating prototypes and parts needed to ensure our ships stay operational and mission-ready through innovative solutions.

PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight" by repairing, maintaining, and modernizing the Navy's fast-attack submarines and surface ships. Strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, it is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East. (U.S. Navy photo by Camey Streff)
