My name is SSgt Arinn Hammer and I’m here to tell you about the night that completely changed my life.

On Thanksgiving, I decided to leave a friend’s house to go to the corner store after I had been drinking. I was going well above the speed limit when I lost control of my car, struck a fire hydrant and continued to roll my car four times through a wall before finally stopping once I hit a tree.

I wasn’t seriously injured, but the first thing I thought when I got out of the car was, “Why didn’t I just die?”

That told me that maybe I had more than just a problem with my drinking. I was arrested for Driving under the Influence.

I spent 44 days as an in-patient treatment facility that taught me how to deal with my drinking issues. There are consequences for poor decision making; you choose how to handle difficult times; and you’re not invincible.
