On August 1, 2009, during the Saturday drill period, Pararescuemen (PJ) from the 103rd Rescue Squadron, 106th Rescue Wing, participated in various water exercises. The 102nd Rescue Squadron dropped two RAMZ kits and PJs from an HC-130 and they landed in a designated spot in the water off of Hampton Bays, N.Y., where a PJ boat was waiting. The PJ?s boat was primarily responsible for retrieving the parachutes and other items related to the jump. In addition, PJs on Advanced Rescue Crafts assisted in the drop by creating concentric circles around the boat giving the HC-130 a better target and keeping the drop zone free from boat traffic,. Once the PJs finished setting up their RAMZ Kit, an HH-60 from the 101st Rescue Squadron worked with the PJs to perform various Alternate Insertion and Extractions to include ?low and slows,? hoist, fast rope and rope ladder.
