SBYC Soliders on the Sound Fishing Trip

A fluke is thrown back by Joe Santospirito, owner of the "Sea Spirit," into the water for being too short. Fluke have to be at least 21" in order to be kept, and only four fluke met that standard. The Smithtown Bay Yacht Club hosted the second annual Soldiers on the Sound fishing trip on July 24, 2010 in Smithtown, N.Y. Members of the 106th Rescue Wing, from F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base, were the majority of participants for the event which paired the Airmen with civilians who took them on their boat to fish. The main fish the members sought to catch was the fluke. Out of the 18 boats which were deployed for the event only four regulation size fish were caught. The winning fluke was caught by SSgt. Derek Wallace, 106th Vehicle Maintenance, and it measured 4 lbs 3 ounces. (Official U.S. Air Force photo/SSgt David J. Murphy/released)
