MEMORANDUM FOR 106 RQW
FROM: 106 RQW/CC

SUBJECT: Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Commitment Statement

1. The 106th Rescue Wing's primary federal mission is to provide Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR). In peacetime the 106th performs search and rescue missions on behalf of the state of New York and the Federal government. It performs long-range over-water missions using the aerial refueling capabilities of the HC-130 transport and the HH-60 helicopter.

2. In trust with our motto, "These things we do, that others may live", our installation is committed to continued excellence, leadership, and stewardship in protecting the natural environment and providing a safe, healthy work environment for our personnel. Environmental, Safety, Occupational Health and Fire Protection are a primary management responsibility, as well as the responsibility of every worker, contractor, supplier and our tenant: the Coast Guard Exchange. In keeping with this policy, our vision is to reduce waste through pollution prevention, continually improve our environmental performance by minimizing our impacts on the manmade and natural environment, encourage an atmosphere that reinforces safe work practices, ensure a healthy environment in which to work, integrate fire protection into the overall environmental and safety program and maintain compliance with all federal, state, local and other pertinent environmental, safety and fire regulations or requirements, at all times. Our basic tenets include:

a. Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health protection is a line responsibility and an important measure of worker performance. Every worker is responsible for environmental protection, personnel health and worker safety.

b. Compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations is paramount in all we do. The wing will set environmental goals, measure progress and take corrective action when necessary.

c. We are committed to reducing or eliminating the generation of waste through product substitution, process improvement and worker education. This will be a prime consideration in all future decision-making.
