Colonel JEFFREY D. CANNET

Col. Jeffery D. Cannet is the Commander of the 106th Rescue Wing at Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base, Westhampton Beach, N.Y. The 106th Rescue Wing consists of four groups with over 1,000 military and civilian personnel. The Wing operates HC-130J Combat King II aircraft and HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters along with a Guardian Angel Squadron comprised of Combat Rescue Officers (CRO), pararescuemen, and Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) specialists. Together, the Wing supports Air Force Personnel Recovery operations, performs civil search and rescue missions, and assists state emergency response and disaster relief efforts as directed by the Governor of New York. Col. Cannet also serves as the Vice Commander of the military Joint Task Force for the Long Island region, available to support civil authorities when activated upon order from the New York Joint Forces Headquarters.

Upon entering the Air Force in 1993, Col. Cannet served as an F-15C/D aircraft maintenance technician and later earned his enlisted aviator wings as a flight engineer on the C-141B. In 2000, he transitioned to the Air National Guard, serving as a combat search and rescue flight engineer on the HC-130P/N. In 2004, Col. Cannet was commissioned through the Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base (ANGB), Tenn. and in 2005, he graduated from the Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training program at Laughlin AFB, Texas. Col. Cannet has deployed in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, NORTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM, NOBLE EAGLE, and ENDURING FREEDOM.

Prior to assuming command, Col. Cannet was the Commander of the 106th Operations Group. Col. Cannet is a command pilot with more than 5000 flight hours in various Air Force aircraft as a pilot and flight engineer. He also has over 125 combat and combat support hours.
