On June 13, 1978, an HH-3E Jolly Green Giant Helicopter from the 102nd Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Group now the 106th Rescue Wing in Westhampton Beach N.Y., was returning to base after training at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, N.Y. After encountering inclement weather, the seven members turned back to Plattsburgh, but with low visibility, the HH-3E hit the Trembleau Mountain just below its peak. The goal, according to Mr. Joseph Graziano, is to use the commercial system, to track pararescuemen and aircraft when they are deployed for both domestic and overseas missions. Laurie Perno, 106th Rescue Wing retention office manager, for her work as a recruiter and retention officer at Francis S. Gabreski ANGB, Westhampton Beach, N.Y., April 8, 2022. Perno has recruited 272 Airmen during her career and was ranked the number one retention office manager in New York State for fiscal year 2018, 2019 and 2020.
