Pararescuemen and Combat Rescue Officers with the New York Air National Guard's 103rd Rescue Squadron, 106th Rescue Wing, supported by the Hawaii Air National Guard's 154th Wing, 204th Airlift Squadron, jump from a C-17 into the waters off Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam on March 7, 2017 as they conduct training to test new spacecraft recovery techniques and equipment that will be used to recover the crew module of NASA's Orion spacecraft. NewYork Air National Guard pararescuemen and Combat Rescue Officers assigned to the 103rd Rescue Squadron of the 106th Rescue Wing prepare to drop a preloaded inflatible boat from a C-17 flown by the Hawaii Air National Guard's 204th Airlift Squadron of the 154th Wing into the waters off Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam on March 6, 2017. On June 13, 1978, an HH-3E Jolly Green Giant Helicopter from the 102nd Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Group now the 106th Rescue Wing in Westhampton Beach N.Y., was returning to base after training at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, N.Y. After encountering inclement weather, the seven members turned back to Plattsburgh, but with low visibility, the HH-3E hit the Trembleau Mountain just below its peak.
