106th Rescue Wing Alumni Association Gives Scholarship Awards

8/2/15 -- WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NEW YORK- The 106th Rescue Wing Alumni Association presented two awardees with the "CMSgt William A. Shiffer Memorial College Scholarship" for their academic achievements and community involvement on August 2, 2015.
Senior Airman Francisco Vierapereira, of the 106th Civil Engineering Squadron and Kevin William, son of MSgt (Ret.) Don Williams, were each presented with a $500 scholarship by Colonel (Ret.) Robert Landsiedel, President of the 106th Rescue Wing Alumni Association.
Vierapereira is a senior at Long Island University where he is majoring in Physical Therapy. Along with his duties at the 106th Rescue Wing, Vierapereira volunteers with the Special Olympics of New York and coaches wrestling. Kevin Williams is a 2015 graduate of Mattituck High School and will be attending High Point University, in North Carolina. There, he will be studying Business Entrepreneurship.
Each year, the 106th Rescue Wing Alumni Association presents two scholarships, one for an undergraduate student and one for a high school graduating student. The award is named in honor of one of the Alumni Association's founding members and retired Chief Master Sergeant from the 106th Rescue Wing, said Landsiedel.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be attending, or enrolled with intent on attending, in an accredited college or university for the upcoming fall semester. College and high school students who apply must hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Applicants also have to be either a 106th Rescue Wing member, a dependent, unmarried child or grandchild of an active or retired member of the 106th Rescue Wing, or 106th Rescue Wing Alumni Association. Those who have already completed a 4 year degree, or graduates degree, are not eligible to apply.
The Alumni Association presents the awards each to support the ongoing education of unit members and past/present family members of wing personnel.
