A cake shaped to look like the Guardian Angel's barrette was available to Congressman Tim Bishop (D-NY) who visited the 106th Rescue Wing at F.S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach, N.Y. on Jan. 22, 2011. The main reason for the visit was to meet Staff Sgt. Kieran Carney a Pararescueman with the 103rd Rescue Squadron who was selected as Airman of the Year for the 106th Rescue Wing and is currently under consideration for Airman of the Year for New York State. Staff Sgt. Carney was also invited to attend the State of the Union address with Congressman Bishop on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.

Members of the 106th Rescue Wing receive a BBQ lunch in the dining facility at F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in F.S. Gabreski, N.Y on August 11, 2010. This event was meant to celebrate the completion of the recent Unit Compliance Inspection which occurred over the recent August Drill. In summery the 106th had 339 Complies, 137 Complies with Comments and 25 Do Not Complies. According the IG Team Chief the 106th showed that it has "a strong culture of compliance."
